Through the use of a piezo-electronic system, the hollow U-tube inside the Density Meter will be vibrated at its natural resonance frequency, much like a tuning fork. At a constant temperature, these harmonic frequencies will have constant and a reproducible value. The U-tube is then filled with the sample at the same constant temperature. The frequency of the U-tube will shift; the shift in this frequency is directly proportional to the mass of the sample inside the U-tube. Accordingly, the mass would be measured. Since the volume of the U-tube is constant, then the density can be measured.
